When you look for a tool to liven up an event, the same names keep coming up. But Slido, Kahoot and Questa do not solve the same problem, so the right question is not "which is best" but "which is right for what I need".
Quick summary
- Slido: live questions and polls during a session.
- Kahoot: timed, competitive quizzes in a room or a classroom.
- Questa: gamification of the whole event, with challenges, QR, networking and a branded app.
Slido: live questions and polls
It is built for the moment when a speaker wants to hear the audience: people send questions, upvote the best ones and answer polls, and the moderator shows it all on a screen. It works well in panels, keynotes and meetings.
A good fit when: what you need to solve is a session's Q&A. Less suited when: you want people to participate throughout the whole event, not only inside the room.
Kahoot: competitive quizzes
It turns a question into a timed game with a leaderboard, in a very recognisable format. It is strong in training, classes and short bursts of energy in a room.
A good fit when: you want a short, competitive group activity with everyone at the same time. Less suited when: you need to follow each participant's individual journey across booths, sessions and spaces.
Questa: gamification of the whole event
Questa treats the event as a journey. Participants get a passport of challenges (quizzes, QR at locations, networking, feed posts, the survey) and earn points and badges. Organisers see statistics per event.
- QR code for check-in and for connecting participants (networking).
- Branded app, in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
- Event feed with likes, comments and push notifications.
- Anonymous post-event survey, sent by email.
- Coming soon: ticket sales for your event, on the same platform (in development).
- Pay per event: free up to 5 participants, from EUR 199 per event for up to 150 people.
When to choose each one
- You have one panel and want upvoted questions on a screen: Slido (or another Q&A tool).
- You want a competitive 10-minute quiz in the room: Kahoot.
- You want people to explore the event, visit booths, meet others and come back: Questa.
- You want all of this at a large conference: combine them, use Slido on panels and Questa for the journey.
What Questa does not do
To be clear: Questa is not a real-time Q&A voting tool nor a timed quiz engine for the whole room at once. It has scored quizzes with attempt limits, but designed for participants to answer on their own phone, at their own pace.
Features and prices of other tools change often. Always check the official websites before deciding.
Summary
Choose by problem: Slido for questions, Kahoot for room quizzes and Questa to bring the whole event to life. Organisers of larger events often end up combining two of them.
